Some Thoughts on Homosexuality

God created man as male and female (Gen. 1:26-31). He states that He created the female because it was not good for the male to be alone (Gen. 2:18, 21-22). The creation account describes a male and a female as being created for relationship with one another (Gen. 2:23-24). If this were untrue, God would have been able to correct Adam’s misunderstanding but He did not because Adam had accurately understood the relationship between male and female. God personally established the institution of marriage, between a male and a female.

As God revealed the law to Moses He made it crystal clear that homosexuality is forbidden (Lev. 18:22-24). Homosexuality is described by God as “detestable” (Lev. 18:22; cf. 18:1). Many have attempted to establish homosexuality as forbidden under the Mosaic law but permitted under the New Covenant. This is simply untrue. The N.T. describes homosexuality as “unnatural”, “shameless”, and “perversion” (Rom. 1:26-27). Those who practice homosexuality do so because God gave them over to “degrading passions” as a result of them rejecting Him (Rom. 1:24-27).

Homosexuality is a sexual sin and it is a sin against one’s own body (1 Cor. 6:12-20). Those who sin in this way will experience physical consequences for their wickedness (Rom. 1:27). The Mosaic law is meant to bring conviction of sin and one of those sins is homosexuality (1 Tim. 1:8-10).

We believe that sexual relationships that occur outside of the bounds of a marriage between one man and one woman are displeasing to God and they are sin.
