The letter to the Ephesians is a tie for my favorite book in the Scriptures (the other would be Romans). I was reading through it this morning and there is so much that is there, beautiful Theology. In chapter 2 we are reminded that all Christ followers were at one time “dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked.” What a thought! We were dead, spiritually dead! The thought in and of itself we could spend hours discussing! But, he tells us that we formerly walked in this consistently sinful way (a good reminder for us). God is declaring to us that Christ followers are to live consistently righteous lives, not sinful lives.
Living a new, righteous, spiritually vibrant life is reaffirmed in 2nd Corinthians 5. The Text says that, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” Christ followers are new people, with new identities. God the Father because of His great love for us has given us new spiritual life through faith in the death and resurrection of God the Son, with the new life being imparted by the supernatural working of the Holy Spirit.
Do we live like we are alive now? Do we live like we are God’s workmanship (work of art – Eph 2:10) created in Christ for good works? I don’t know. This is a radical way of life, a new way of life. But, I guess God already said that.
